About the Project

A Living Tribute to George Harrison’s Light

My Sweet George is a special-edition publication from Awake Souls, created to mark 25 years since George Harrison’s passing and to honour the music, devotion, imagination and quiet courage that continue to guide listeners around the world.

Awake Souls: Publishing for What Endures

Awake Souls is an independent cultural and spiritual publishing project devoted to the places where art, remembrance and inner life meet. We create considered editorial work that looks beyond celebrity and nostalgia, making room for music as a vessel for meaning, companionship and transformation. Our approach is intimate, archival and human: attentive to the stories, images, songs and acts of devotion that continue to resonate across generations.

My Sweet George exists within that spirit. Created as a sincere tribute to George Harrison on the 25th anniversary of his passing, this special edition reflects on a life that moved freely between songwriting, guitar, friendship, gardening, India, Krishna consciousness and the enduring search for what is real. It is not simply a retrospective; it is an invitation to listen again—to hear the tenderness, questioning and transcendence woven through his work.

Through essays, interviews, visual archives, musical reflections and contributions from those touched by his example, Awake Souls honours a legacy that remains deeply alive. Our larger mission is to preserve cultural memory with care while opening a contemporary conversation about devotion, beauty, mortality and the possibility of a more awakened life.

George Harrison

George Harrison’s journey began in Liverpool, where a quiet, self-taught guitarist became an essential voice in the most influential band of his generation. Within The Beatles, his writing steadily revealed a singular sensibility: melodic, searching and emotionally direct. Songs such as “Something,” “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” and “Here Comes the Sun” showed an artist capable of turning inwardness into universal feeling.

His curiosity led him far beyond the familiar boundaries of pop music. Drawn to Indian philosophy, instruments and devotional practice, Harrison studied the sitar with Ravi Shankar and developed a lifelong relationship with India. His encounter with Krishna consciousness, including his friendship with A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, gave language and practice to a spiritual longing that had long animated his music. Chanting the Hare Krishna mantra, supporting devotional communities and bringing Indian musical traditions to new audiences were not passing interests, but expressions of a deeply held conviction that identity and love extend beyond the material world.

As a solo artist, Harrison created work of rare openness and spiritual force. All Things Must Pass, “My Sweet Lord,” the Concert for Bangladesh and the records that followed joined craft with compassion, making space for faith, doubt, impermanence and joy. His influence endures not only in the songs he left behind, but in the way he modelled artistic independence, service, humility and the courage to seek transcendence in everyday life.

“All things must pass.”

"Everything else can wait, but the search for God cannot wait."

A Living Legacy, Shared Forward

My Sweet George exists to hold a living conversation across time: between songs and listeners, private searching and shared devotion, the memories of those who knew George Harrison’s work as it happened and the generations discovering it anew. Through the special edition and the work of Awake Souls, we preserve not only facts and photographs, but the feeling that continues to move through the music—wonder, humility, beauty, grief, gratitude and hope.

Our mission is to care for this legacy with attention and sincerity. We make room for artistic remembrance, spiritual reflection and the small human details that give history its warmth: a handwritten line, a guitar in quiet light, a garden path, a voice returning to a song. In commemorating the 25th anniversary of George’s passing, we are not looking backward alone. We are creating a thoughtful place where his music, values and searching can continue to inspire meaningful connection, compassionate listening and a deeper sense of what endures.
